This a great, simple and concise article that I would love to share with my clients. My only issue is that is geared toward female clients with term “cave girl” which is very cute and I can see the appeal of using it, but possibly exclusionary . In recent years I have started to work with an increased number of men with AN. The feminine language used in written resources can really isolate my patients and increase stigma and shame “I have a girls disease”. We need to start righting articles from the viewpoint that ED are now experienced by a highly diverse populations across gender, ethnicity, age, personality, sexual orientation and more.

With a family member that currently suffers from a severe eating disorder, I fear for the damage that she is doing to her brain and muscles every day. I have endlessly searched for some way to help keep her healthy. I was watching her slowly wasting away in front of my eyes, the creativity and bubbly personality that used to be the girl I loved was fading away. There was nothing that I could do to make her understand the harm that she was causing herself. I know that God was watching over us when He showed us a light at the end of the tunnel. I stumbled upon some research related to ketones and their ability to preserve and protect muscle and provide her brain with the fuel that it needed to function efficiently and I knew that this was worth trying; I was desperate and willing to try anything. After beginning this last ditch effort, it took hardly any time to tell that I had found something to buy us some time. She came back alive and became the girl that I have always known and loved. I’m not saying that this is her “cure”, but it is certainly something that helps to give me peace of mind that the important things that keep her alive are protected!
